Baby Teeth Chart: When Do Baby Teeth Come In?

Your baby’s first tooth is a big moment — a sign your little one is growing and developing right on track. But when should you expect each tooth to appear? Our baby teeth chart helps parents understand when to anticipate each milestone, and how to care for those tiny pearly whites along the way.

What Is a Baby Teeth Chart?

A baby teeth chart is a visual timeline showing when a child’s primary (baby) teeth typically come in. It’s not only helpful for tracking development, but also for knowing when to start oral hygiene routines and schedule dental visits.

Most children will follow a predictable pattern:

  1. Central incisors (front teeth)
  2. Lateral incisors
  3. Canines (cuspids)
  4. First molars
  5. Second molars

Baby Teeth Eruption Timeline

Tooth Type Upper Teeth Lower Teeth
Central Incisors 8–12 months 6–10 months
Lateral Incisors 9–13 months 10–16 months
Canines (Cuspids) 16–22 months 17–23 months
First Molars 13–19 months 14–18 months
Second Molars 25–33 months 23–31 months

Are Delays in Tooth Eruption Normal?

Yes! There is a wide range of what’s considered “normal.” Some babies sprout teeth as early as 4 months, while others don’t get their first tooth until closer to 12 months. If your child hasn’t shown signs of teething by 18 months, it’s a good idea to check in with a pediatric dentist.

How to Care for Baby Teeth

  • Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and a grain-of-rice-sized smear of fluoride toothpaste.
  • Brush twice a day, especially before bedtime.
  • Avoid putting your baby to bed with a bottle.
  • Book your baby’s first dental visit by age one, or within 6 months of the first tooth appearing.

When Do Baby Teeth Fall Out?

Most children start to lose their baby teeth around age 6, beginning with the same central incisors that came in first. This process continues until around age 12, when all 20 baby teeth are eventually replaced by permanent adult teeth.
